Job Description

CARH is seeking a Professional Psychologist to join our team in supporting the mental and emotional well-being of our clients, community members, and staff. This role requires expertise in mental health diagnostics, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support, tailored to the unique needs of sexual and gender minorities. The psychologist will collaborate closely with ICARH’s interdisciplinary team, ensuring clients receive comprehensive care that promotes positive behavioral adjustments and emotional resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic and Evaluative Support:

    • Diagnose and evaluate the mental and emotional disorders of clients, community members, and staff, using both formal assessments and observational techniques.
    • Conduct thorough interviews, analyze medical and social case histories, and identify behavioral, psychological, emotional, or organizational challenges.
    • Diagnose disorders and administer evidence-based treatment plans to facilitate improved emotional and psychological well-being.
  • Treatment Planning and Therapy:

    • Develop and administer individualized treatment programs, including psychotherapy sessions tailored to address specific client needs.
    • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions, focusing on critical issues relevant to sexual and gender minorities, and evaluate client progress.
    • Modify treatment plans as necessary, based on ongoing assessments and feedback, to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Crisis Intervention:

    • Provide immediate psychological support and intervention in urgent situations, ensuring clients’ safety and stability.
    • Utilize crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate acute emotional distress and provide guidance toward longer-term solutions.
  • Client Documentation and Confidentiality:

    • Document all therapy sessions in accordance with ICARH’s policies and ethical guidelines, ensuring client confidentiality.
    • Maintain accurate records that reflect the treatment progress and adjustments made to therapy plans.
  • Research and Behavioral Analysis:

    • Conduct research to identify patterns and underlying factors contributing to client behaviors and emotional states.
    • Use insights from assessments to help clients better understand and manage their behavior, fostering a proactive approach to mental health.
  • Therapeutic Techniques and Intervention:

    • Employ various psychological techniques and intervention strategies to support clients in adjusting to their environments effectively.
    • Select and adjust the frequency, intensity, and duration of treatment interventions to maximize therapeutic benefit.
  • Collaboration and Reporting:

    • Work closely with ICARH’s interdisciplinary teams to achieve shared targets and provide timely, comprehensive reports.
    • Engage with other departments to contribute to program development, outreach, and community support initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Programs, including program reporting and goal tracking

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice as a psychologist in Nigeria, with up-to-date registration.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a clinical setting, preferably working with sexual and gender minorities or vulnerable communities.
